Sports Development Awards
Sports Development Awards are awarded to young people who compete at high level sports events. The money, ranging from £50 to £150, is to help with their sporting ambitions.
Applications for the 2008 awards closed on 28 March. The winners attended a prize-giving ceremony on 13 May 2008 at the Winter Gardens in Eastbourne.
In total, over 200 awards were presented, along with £12,000 worth of funding.
Award winners from Helenswood School, Hastings
The 11 winners of the ‘Chairman’s Award for High Achievement’ were:
- Sarah Moore (Athletics, national) – Hailsham Community College
- Oliver Everest (Judo, national) – The Lindfield School
- Alex Mills-Barton (Sailing, national) – Seaford Head Community College
- Victoria Turner (Swimming, national) – St Richard’s Catholic College
- Laura Baker (Rugby, regional) – Hillcrest School
- Chris Dadson (Gymnastics, regional) – William Parker Sports College
- Christopher Somers (Hockey, county) – Beacon Community College
- Kirstin Mair (Cricket, county) – Claverham Community College
- Peter Gregory (Football, county) – Heathfield Community College
- Marie White (Badminton, county) – Helenswood School
- U14 Girls Football Team (Champion Team Award) – Tideway School.
