Would you like to learn to kayak, windsurf, powerboat or sail? If you want to learn a new water sport, or develop the skills you already have, Spray Water Sports Centre in Eastbourne can teach you how.

Courses range from two hour taster sessions to advanced Royal Yachting Association (RYA) certificates. Groups can take two-hour taster sessions at special rates – see below. We also now offer one on one tuition.

Windsurfing

Taster session - £32

Learn the basics of windsurfing in two hours.

Start windsurfing, level 1 - £140, (£190 for one on one sessions)

A complete beginner's guide, this course is run over a weekend (see course dates page) or you can book for one-on-one tuition and do the course whenever you want. Teaching time is roughly 12 hours.

Introduction to ‘fast forward' windsurfing - £75 (£105 for one on one sessions)

This course follows on from the start windsurfing course. You will learn how to sail in a straight line, turn and improve your stance. The course is taught one-to-one for two sessions, for a minimum of four hours.

Intermediate windsurfing - £120 (£180 for one on one sessions)

This course follows on from the introduction to fast forward sessions and takes you through faster tacking, intro to harness work and the non planing carve gybes, Foot straps, getting going and blasting control. Teaching time is roughly 8 hours.

Advanced ‘fast forward' windsurfing - £100 (£135 for one on one sessions)

Fast forward windsurfing is for anyone who has completed the ‘introduction to fast forward windsurfing' course and wants to learn more advanced skills. Skills include faster tacking, foot strap technique, water starting, carve gybes, and blasting control. The course is three two-hour sessions.

‘Fast forward' clinics - £45 (£60 for one on one sessions)

One-on-one training for you to develop your skills. You could learn more about carve gibing, faster tracking, chop hops or windsurfing on a tidal location. Clinics are two hours long and are designed around your skills.

Dinghy sailing

Taster session - £32 (£45 for one on one sessions)

The basics of dinghy sailing in two hours.

Dinghy ‘start sailing' course, levels 1 and 2

Royal Yachting Association (RYA) approved, this is a quick way to learn to sail. You will learn skills such as rigging, rope work, sailing techniques, launching and capsizing.

  • Level 1 - £149 (£199 for one on one sessions), 5 sessions. This course is run over a weekend (see course dates page) or you can book for one-on-one tuition and do the course whenever you want. Teaching time is roughly 10 hours.
  • Level 2 - £180 (£250 for one on one sessions), 7 sessions. This course is run over a weekend (see course dates page) or you can book for one-on-one tuition and do the course whenever you want. Teaching time is roughly 14 hours.
  • Levels 1 and 2 - £280 (£370 for one on one sessions), 12 sessions.

Dinghy better sailing Level 3 - £175 (£250 for one on one sessions)

This course aims to build confidence and experience so you can sail on your own, or in preparation for one of the more advanced courses.

Dinghy sailing advanced skills - £185 (£255 for one on one sessions)

This course is geared round your sailing needs. You could learn more about seamanship, sailing with spinnakers or performance sailing. The course is split into five two-hour sessions.

Power boating

Power boating, levels 1 and 2

Level 1 is a one-day RYA approved course on boat handling and safety skills for people with no previous experience.

Level 2 is a two-day course for those with some boat handling experience. You will learn about high speed handling, coming alongside and man overboard recovery. Level 2 power boating is a basic requirement if you want to hire a boat or drive a boat abroad.

  • Level 1 - £120 (£135 for one on one sessions)
  • Level 2 - £185 (£230 for one on one sessions)

Group rates

Taster session

A two-hour course, for a minimum of four people, for either:

  • windsurfing
  • sailing
  • kayaking, or
  • raft-building (minimum 8 people).

Prices per person

  • Groups of 4 to 6 - £28
  • Groups of 6 to 12 - £25
  • Groups of 12 to 18 - £22
  • Groups of 18 or more (30 maximum) - £18
