'Discover Family History!' courses at Eastbourne Library

Now booking for our family history course in March – please send your booking form to Eastbourne Library by Saturday 18 February.

Who do you think you are? Discover your family history at one of our courses on Saturday mornings in Eastbourne Library.

Each course consists of six 2-hour sessions, and the whole thing costs just £40.

The tutor is Bob Spilsted, the Eastbourne and District Family History Society trainer, webmaster and editor.

What you will learn

The sessions cover basic principles, and give an insight into good practices and the resources available.

  • Week 1 – Introduction, oddities and good practice
  • Week 2 – Records
  • Week 3 – Beginning to look at primary sources
  • Week 4 – Secondary sources
  • Week 5 – Use of the Internet as a research tool
  • Week 6 – Resources available locally

You will need basic Internet skills to do this course, and be aged 18 or over.

Dates and times

All sessions take place on Saturday mornings from 10am to 12noon.

Our next course is Saturday 3 March to Saturday 7 April. Please book your place by Saturday 18 February.

    (please include ‘Discover Family History' in your subject line)
  • post a completed application form to Eastbourne Reference Library
  • phone 0345 60 80 196 and ask for the ‘Discover Family History!' course at Eastbourne Reference Library. You will need to give your credit or debit card details.

The closing date for booking is Saturday 18 February.

Fees and refunds

Course fees

Each course costs £40 per person. This includes the price of course materials.

You can pay by cash, cheque, credit or debit card. We accept Mastercard, Visa, Delta, JCB and Switch.

Refunds

We will normally give you a full refund if:

  • we cancel a course because there are not enough people enrolled
  • you cannot attend because we changed the day, time or venue of a course.

Refunds are not normally given if you leave part way through the course.

In the case of exceptional personal circumstances, the Senior Librarian may make a refund or book you onto a later course – please write to her at the address below explaining your circumstances.
