Donating or depositing records
Do you own any original historical documents that could be of interest to researchers at East Sussex record office? If you do then why not consider donating or loaning them to us?
Donating or loaning ('depositing') documents will help to conserve them. All documents are stored in secure strong rooms and are protected by intruder and fire alarm systems. Subject to your agreement, they will be listed and made available to the public for research. If you loan us any documents then you will still retain legal ownership of them.
If you own historic documents, but would prefer not to loan them to us we can also advise you on how best to store them. We are also pleased to receive information about the whereabouts of documents relating to the county, especially any which might be at risk.
If you wish to donate or loan your documents to us, contact the Record Office.
Withdrawal of records
The majority of records held at East Sussex Record Office are unique and irreplaceable. They are usually owned by people or organisations who deposit them with us so that we can make them available for research at the Record Office.

Loan of records for exhibitions

Before we loan records to exhibitors we check what security and insurance arrangements have been made, and how the items will be displayed.
