Access to Archives
Access to Archives (A2A) lists copies of catalogue entries relating to records held in archives across the country. Around 75% of the catalogues of records held at East Sussex Record Office are available on A2A, so it is worth searching here before contacting or visiting the record office.
How to use A2A
The simplest way to search A2A is by keyword. If you are only interested in records held at East Sussex Record Office, select this option in the "Location of Archives” field.
Lists of catalogues which contain your keyword will then be displayed. On the right hand side of the screen are links called ‘1 hit(s)’ (or similar). If you click on this link you’ll get more detailed information about all documents relating to that topic. If you want to read more about an individual catalogue entry, select "Catalogue in full” at the top of the page.
Each entry has a catalogue reference (eg R/C/47/1). Take a note of it as you will need to quote the reference number if you want to look at the original document at the record office.
