Long distance walks
Ten long distance footpaths pass through East Sussex including the South Downs Way, the Sussex Border Path and the 1066 Country Walk.

Boothland Wood
Boothland Wood, south of Uckfield is open to the public at all times has paths and tracks for walkers and cyclists and is a haven for wildlife.
Camber Castle walk
This 3.5 mile circular walk around Rye Harbour Nature Reserve and passing the castle, is generally level and has good disabled access.
Chailey Common
Chailey Common is one of the largest commons in the south of England. It is a Site of Special Scientific Interest for its heathland plants and diverse insect and bird communities.
The Cuckoo Trail
The picturesque Cuckoo Trail follows the line of a former railway, which in its heyday stretched from Eridge to Polegate, passing through Heathfield, Horam, Hellingly and Hailsham.
Ditchling Common
Ditchling Common lies between Haywards Heath and Lewes, covering an area of 188 acres. It was established as a country park by East Sussex County Council in 1974.
Forest Way Country Park
The Forest Way Country Park is situated in the heart of the East Sussex countryside. Part of the High Weald Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, it consists of small fields and farms among wooded, rolling hills.
Park Wood, Hellingly
Park Wood, Hellingly, is 1.5 miles (2.5km) north of Hailsham in the Wealden District. It has 60 hectares of ancient semi-natural woodland and is a designated Site of Nature Conservation Importance.
Shinewater Park
Shinewater Park is Eastbourne's newest park and combines purpose built recreation facilities within a country park atmosphere.
Weir Wood Reserve
In Ashdown Forest, the western end of the reservoir is a Local Nature Reserve. The rest is used for fishing and water sports. The reservoir has a breeding colony of great crested grebes and migrating ospreys in Spring and Autumn.
West Park
West Park local nature reserve is 27 acres and lies on the western side of Uckfield between the West Park housing estate, the A22 Uckfield bypass and the B2012 Uckfield to Piltdown road. The nature reserve is open to the public at all times.
