East Sussex Local Access Forum
The East Sussex Local Access Forum advises on a range of issues concerning people using the countryside for recreation.
This is a requirement of the Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000.
The 13 members of the Local Access Forum represent users, land managers and those with other interests, eg conservation, tourism and disabilities.
Advice is provided to the Council and other organisations to improve access to the countryside for recreation whilst protecting wildlife and the landscape.
Much of the work of the Forum in the South Downs will be devolved to a South Downs Access Forum covering the whole of the Sussex Downs and East Hampshire Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This will report to the main forums in East Sussex, Brighton & Hove, West Sussex and Hampshire.
Have your say – join the Forum
We need more volunteers to join this influential group and contribute to the future of public use of the East Sussex countryside.
Membership of the Forum should fairly represent a wide range of interests including rights of way users, farming and other countryside interests. We are particularly keen for applications from people with an interest in:
- disabled access to the countryside
- walking
- rural and other interests
- cycling ‘off-road’.
An ability to recognise the views of others and seek to reach agreement will be vital, as will independence from the views of any particular organisation (membership of organisations is useful but the people we are looking for will feel able to give their own opinions).
