Plans for improved countryside access for people with disabilities
Project part financed by the European Union
New Opportunities for Sustainable (Social and Environmental) Integration (NOSI) is a project aimed at improving recreational access to the countryside for people with disabilities and special needs.
This two year project is part funded by an initiative to develop co-operation between border countries of the European Union, called Interreg IIIa.
Our French partners are Communauté de Communes du Doullennais.
NOSI in East Sussex
With the help of volunteers from the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BTCV), we have improved access to countryside sites and the wider network of paths. See general information on these sites:
NOSI in France
In France, our partners Communauté de Communes du Doullennais are working to encourage interaction between local residents and businesses by providing training opportunities for disadvantaged communities and individuals including:
- building restoration within the Doullens Citadelle
- adapting access to country paths and historic sites for people with disabilities
- exchanging skills and knowledge about best practice ways of studying the local culture and environment, with our team in East Sussex.
Volunteering
Volunteers have been vital to the work of the project, helping us to carry out the practical work whilst learning new skills in the countryside
This project ended on 31 August 2007, but there are many other opportunities to volunteer in the countryside.
