The Moths Project, Hastings – art in public places

The Moth Project in Hastings
The Moth Project in Hastings

Description of art project

The moths, geometrically camouflaged for urban settings, lie at rest in eight sites across the town's architecture, some hidden, some more obvious.

An innovative technique, using stencils and water on dirty walls and pavements, creates images of startling beauty. The results are large scale icons which are integrated into the environment rather than being distractions from it.

Moths are patterned to blend into their surroundings to give protection from predators. Clean Art intrinsically creates this illusion of camouflage.
