Description of art project

This small private garden at Conquest Hospital, Hastings, is for bereaved relatives and friends visiting the hospital mortuary.

Sensitive use of soft diffused light and sympathetic designs offer comfortable and private areas for visitors inside and outside the building.

Date

A permanent piece completed in 2005.

  • Vanessa Benson – pavement mosaic using marble offcuts
  • Sharon Haward – decorative window panels in waiting room

Organisations and funding

Hospital staff, relatives and friends worked with 'Arts in Healthcare' at East Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust, who commissioned the work in 2005.

Funding was provided by Conquest Hospital League of Friends and East Sussex Hospitals Charitable Funds.
