Recognition and rewards

As an Investor in People, we are passionate when it comes to recognising and rewarding our people for the outstanding and valuable contributions they make towards our success.

In order to celebrate staff achievement, show our appreciation, share our success stories and let our talented staff know just how valuable they are we have created a number of recognition initiatives.

These include:

Excellence awards

The annual Excellence Awards are designed to recognise individuals and teams who have gone ‘the extra mile' in order to deliver excellent services.

The awards celebrate all the outstanding work that goes on across the services of the Council which can often go unnoticed.

As well as being presented with a prestigious ‘Excellence Award' at an awards ceremony involving our chief officers and Cabinet members there are also financial benefits. Individual winners receive £100 and team entries up to £1,000. Employee of the year carries a prize of £1,000 and Team of the Year winners receive £2,000.

Long service awards

We also value the hard work and commitment demonstrated by our long-serving staff. In recognition of this commitment, all staff who complete 25 years service with us are presented with a certificate commemorating their years of service and a gift to the value of £100 when they retire. These are presented by the Council Chairman in a formal ceremony attended by directors of the County Council.

Recognition of additional responsibilities

Through our honorarium and special merit schemes we reward employees who take on additional duties and responsibilities over and above their normal workload. This includes reward for an exceptional contribution to a piece of work or project, and for high standards of personal achievement and quality of work. These are awarded as a one-off percentage payment of either 2.5%, 5% or 7.5% of annual salary or a flat rate payment of up to £1,000 depending upon the level of additional responsibility undertaken.

Additionally, opportunities occasionally arise for employees to act-up into more senior positions. Aside from being an excellent development opportunity we recognise these additional responsibilities by rewarding staff on a monthly basis with a proportion of the higher salary equivalent to the salary that the employee would receive if permanently appointed to the higher graded post.
