Free training for people with no previous experience

Apply for one of our New Entrants courses.

What does it involve? This training is only available to people without experience in childcare. It divided into two parts:

  • Part 1: ‘Making Choices’ – basic information about working with children, allowing you to make an informed choice about the age of the child you would prefer to work with.
  • Part 2: a choice of NVQ Level 2 units – either Playwork, or Children’s Care, Learning and Development. During the unit, you will also attend a work placement, where you find out what working in childcare is really like.

Where are courses held? The next course will be run in St Leonards, and repeated in Lewes later this year. Details for further courses at other locations around the county will be published here as they become available.

How long does it take? You will need to attend nine 4-hour sessions over a period of three months. Sessions run from 10am- 2pm.

How much does it cost? The training is free. However, we do ask for a £20 deposit for course materials. This money is refunded when the materials are returned at the end of the course.

When does the next course start? The next course will start on 26 September 2008, at the Robsack Children's Centre, North St Leonards. The deadline for applications is 12 September 2008.

How can I apply? Please contact the EYCESS Recruitment helpline on 01323 747493.
