Consultations

Latest: The South East England Regional Assembly (SEERA) is reviewing the draft South East Plan to include policies on the accommodation needs of Gypsies and Travellers. See the Gypsy and Traveller review.

We have tried to ensure that residents and other local stakeholders are fully aware of the emerging South East Plan and have been able to engage with key stages of the process.

Consultation activities have included:

  • holding public meetings
  • undertaking sample surveys
  • publishing special documents
  • direct mailings
  • inviting comments online.

This report was submitted to South East England Regional Assembly (SEERA) in December 2005, together with our final sub-regional policy advice.

Additional information about how the Assembly’s own consultation activities is also available on SEERA’s website.

Our consultation on district-level housing provision – September to October 2005

In July 2005, SEERA agreed a series of core regional policies. These included key decisions about overall levels of further housing development across the region.

Out of a regional total of 28,900 new homes per year, SEERA is looking to East Sussex (including Brighton & Hove) to accommodate 1,900 new homes per year over the 20 years to 2026. This is 17% lower than is currently required.

SEERA asked for our advice on how its proposed housing for East Sussex should be distributed between Brighton & Hove and the county’s districts and boroughs. Before advising SEERA, we asked local residents and other stakeholders for their comments on our proposals.

The New Homes for East Sussex, 2006 -2026 consultation ran from 19 September – 31 October 2005. You can download the:

Our final advice to SEERA on district-level housing provision submitted on 9 December 2005 was in line with our consultation proposals and was incorporated into our Revised final Strategy for the Sussex Coast.
