Current position and timetable

Latest: A consultation on the Secretary of State’s Proposed Changes to the Regional Spatial Strategy ended on 24 October 2008. Latest information about this consultation will be published on the Government Office for the South East website.

Next steps and final publication of the South East Plan

After considering the Examination in Public (EiP) panel’s report and recommendations, the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government (SoS) has published her own ‘proposed modifications’ to the South East England Regional Asembly’s (SEERA) original draft South East Plan policies. This has prompted a further period of statutory consultation on the government’s proposed changes. We will be responding to this consultation

After taking account of all the written comments received on the government’s proposed modifications to SEERA’s draft plan, the SoS will publish the final version of the new Regional Spatial Strategy – the South East Plan. This is currently expected to be around winter 2008.

Details of the timetable are available on the SEERA website.

Examination in Public – November 2006 to March 2007

The EiP provided an opportunity to discuss and test the soundness of the plan’s proposals and policies in public. It ran from 28 November 2006 to 30 March 2007 and the panel’s report and recommendations to government on how the draft South East Plan should be amended were published in August 2007.

More information is available on the South East Plan EiP website.

The statutory public consultation on the draft South East Plan was carried out from 31 March 2006 – 23 June 2006.

Written comments of support or objection to the draft South East Plan were invited from the region’s residents and other stakeholders. More information about the submitted representations are available on the South East Plan EiP website.
