In April 2003 a 25-year Integrated Waste Management Services Contract, worth approximately £1 billion, was awarded to Onyx South Downs Ltd – now known as Veolia Environmental Services South Downs Ltd – by East Sussex County Council and Brighton & Hove City Council. The authorities tendered the contract after being awarded £49 million in government PFI credits.
A five year extension has been agreed and the contract will now end in March 2033.
