Waste and minerals information papers

Documents called information papers have been produced to support the preparation of the Waste and Minerals Development Framework (WMDF).

The WMDF will decide how and where waste should be dealt with and minerals produced in East Sussex and Brighton & Hove up to 2026.

These papers are intended to set out our current knowledge of waste and minerals both generally and in the local area. This information will help us to work alongside Brighton & Hove City Council in consulting with stakeholders to:

  • check the information to ensure our knowledge and understanding of waste and minerals is robust. This is important because our development plan documents (DPDs) are tested to make sure they are based on sound evidence.
  • identify potential issues or problems relating to waste management and minerals production in East Sussex and Brighton & Hove
  • identify possible options for dealing with those issues, which will help ensure waste is managed and minerals are produced in a way that has the most positive effect on local communities.

The information papers are being prepared as ‘living drafts' which will be updated as additional information becomes available. The information papers, plus a glossary of terms are available to download, below.

Consultation

We consulted with key stakeholders on these Information Papers during August and September 2007 and again during the 'Issues and Options' stage of the consultation process in February 2008.

The papers were updated in October 2009 taking into account comments received so far.

Further comments on the current versions are welcome.

Next steps

The Information Papers will be updated again before being submitted to the Government in support of the Waste and Minerals Core Strategy. They will also be used to support the development of our site allocation documents.
