Waste and Minerals Development Framework – Proposed Submission Waste and Minerals Plan

Together with Brighton & Hove City Council and the South Downs National Park Authority, we are preparing a Waste and Minerals Plan that will set out the over-arching strategic and broad spatial planning policies for waste and minerals in East Sussex, South Downs and Brighton & Hove to 2026. The plan considers:

  • how and where waste could be dealt with, up to 2026 and beyond
  • where minerals essential to the construction industry could be extracted from
  • which ports could accept aggregates dredged from the sea bed.

On 7 February a meeting of the full Council agreed a Plan for submission to government:

The document was also agreed by the other councils:

Commenting on the Plan

We asked for your comments on the 'soundness' of the Plan. This includes making sure that it is:

  • in line with national policy
  • based on accurate information
  • the most appropriate solution for the area
  • practical
  • flexible
  • able to be monitored.

The consultation period was 24 February to 24 April 2012. Guidance notes on making comments are included with a printable version of the response form:

Next steps

The Plan and comments received will be sent to the government for a Planning Inspector to consider all the evidence. Following an Examination in Public, If the Inspector decides that the plan is sound it can then be adopted by the Authorities.
