Structure Plan

Under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, structure plans are being abolished. They are being replaced by:

In the South East, the existing Regional Planning Guidance for the South East (RPG9) has become the region's RSS. This has been reviewed and was submitted to the government in March 2006 as the South East Plan. It is expected to be published in the summer of 2008.

Under the Act’s changeover arrangements the complete East Sussex and Brighton & Hove Structure Plan 1991- 2011 was 'saved' until 27 September 2007. The Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government (SoS) then decided to save some policies beyond this date.

Saved policies

Some Structure Plan policies are being ‘saved’ to avoid any gaps before being replaced by South East Plan or LDF policies. The SoS decided which policies to save, taking into account recommendations from the County Council and the South East England Regional Assembly (SEERA).

Only these saved Structure Plan policies remain in force as part of the development plan. All other policies expired on 27 September 2007.

A more detailed document is being produced which will also include the background information and justification for the policies. In the meantime this can be found in the documents that form Section A of the expired East Sussex and Brighton & Hove Structure Plan 1991–2011.

Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG)

Our Supplementary Planning Guidance documents have also been saved beyond 27 September 2007:
