Our Rights of Way and Countryside Management Team supports a number of regular volunteer groups who help improve the rights of way network in their local area.
We provide tools, materials, training and leadership to help volunteers to work safely and effectively. Their work is highly valued and offers great opportunities for personal development, community involvement and team working.

What can volunteer groups do?
Volunteers can be involved in a variety of ways:
- surveying the rights of way in a parish or area, recording the condition and any works required
- liaising with landowners to improve access by maintaining stiles and gates and keeping hedges trimmed
- waymarking – attaching information discs to fittings and installing waymark posts
- installing bridges and boardwalks
- cutting the path's vegetation.
What can you expect from us?
We will provide:
- first aid, site and tool and safety training
- hand tools and other protective equipment, such as gloves, goggles and hi-visibility vests
- support from the Volunteer Officer with training, practical tasks and rights of Way information
- opportunities to meet and socialise with other volunteer groups.
