Voluntary rangers

Join the Voluntary Ranger Service and work in the beautiful East Sussex countryside, protecting and enhancing a wide variety of habitats. You can gain new skills and get help with finding a job in countryside management.

Who can be a voluntary ranger?

Anyone between the ages of 16–85 can apply – no qualifications or experience are needed. You will be given full training before you start and all tools and equipment are provided.

What does a voluntary ranger do?

The type of work you will be doing depends on the season. It may include clearing paths, laying hedges, coppicing, building stiles and mending bridges.

When do volunteers work?

We have volunteer 'task days' every Wednesday and Friday. Details will be sent to you when you register with us.

You can join us as often as you like – on a weekly basis or just occasionally, when you want to get involved in an invigorating task in the countryside. Contact us on the Monday to check availability of places for that week.
