Environmental management

Between 2000 and 2006 we:

  • reduced the amount of carbon dioxide – the main greenhouse gas – from energy used in council buildings by nearly 14%
  • reduced council waste going to landfill from our largest offices by an average of 47% (a reduction of over 28 tonnes per year).
  • successfully bid for over £350,000 of funding to help improve our environmental performance and assist other organisations to improve theirs.

Environmental Stewardship project

With our partners in Kent and northern France we have secured additional EU funding to expand our Environmental Stewardship project during 2005–7. We will continue to invest in more energy efficient and renewable technologies, expand our office recycling scheme, and reduce our use of water.

Case histories

Our partners have produced a set of case studies on some of the key issues, including lessons learned and pitfalls to avoid. For more information, download the Environmental Stewardship case histories.
