The Historic Environment Record (HER)

The county's known archaeological and historic sites are mapped and described in a database called the East Sussex Historic Environment Record (HER). There are around 9,000 recorded archaeological sites on the HER so far.

We use the HER to provide advice on the possible effects of new development and land use change, and to plan effective conservation. It is also available for public and student research projects.

Search the HER

You can search the Historic Environment Record online through the Heritage Gateway web portal.

The online HER has been made available with English Heritage support.
