Teachers trained outside the UK

We welcome applications from teachers trained outside the UK.

If you want to teach in East Sussex, you can find detailed information about what to do on the Teaching in England website.

This government site was developed specially for teachers from overseas who want to work in England. It gives you advice on:

  • how to check whether your qualifications will allow you to teach in England
  • getting work permits and visas
  • what documents you will need to bring with you
  • criminal records checks
  • working in England and the educational system here.

If you were trained within the European Union, European Economic Area or Switzerland you can find out more about your teaching status in the UK on the Teachernet website.

Overseas Trained Teacher Programme

For general information about the Overseas Trained Teacher Programme (OTTP), visit the Training and Development Agency website.

In the local area, the University of Sussex provides training to help overseas trained teachers gain Qualified Teacher Status in England. For details about the university programme, please email Janet Steadman at jwsteadman3@btopenworld.com
