Thinking of changing your career? Why not turn your talent to teaching?
The Transition to Teaching Programme is a government-funded programme aimed at helping people with industry, public sector or business experience get into teaching mathematics, science, ICT and Modern Foreign Languages (MFL) at secondary school level.
What support will you get?
The programme offers you a range of personalised one-to-one support from a professional development adviser. They will provide you with advice and guidance – from your initial enquiry, through your teacher training, and up to the end of your first year as a teacher.
There are a number of financial incentives available for trainee teachers. As a science, maths, ICT or MFL trainee, you could receive a tax-free bursary of £9,000. You could also get a golden hello of up to £5,000 if you complete a postgraduate Initial Teacher Training (ITT) course, and take up a permanent position in a maintained school or non-maintained special school in England.
Qualifying for the programme
To qualify for the Transition to Teaching Programme, you must have:
- a desire to teach maths, science, ICT or MFL at secondary level in England
- a degree in a related area to science, technology, enigineering, maths or a related subject
