School uniforms

Getting help to pay for school uniforms

Most schools keep a supply of good quality, second hand uniforms and some schools may allow parents to buy uniforms on an agreed repayment plan basis. Contact your child's school to find out if they run a repayment plan.

Why does my child have to wear a school uniform?

Each school has its own uniform policy or dress code. This will normally be set out in the school's brochure or handbook.

The school's governors decide the uniform policy. They must consider the impact this may have on parents and pupils, for example with costs. Parents should raise any complaints about school uniform or dress codes with the governing body of their school.

It is the headteacher's job to make sure that pupils follow the agreed rules on clothing.
