School crossing patrols
In East Sussex we have 120 school crossing patrols at 73 sites, helping children cross the road safely while walking to and from school. Where possible, relief patrols are recruited to cover when a regular patrol is absent, but is still a parent's responsibility to make sure their children travel and arrive safely.
School crossing patrols can by law stop traffic for any pedestrian to cross the road. Any motorist failing to stop when requested by a school crossing patrol is committing an offence and will be reported to the police for prosecution.
