School travel and transport

Latest: Consultation about Home to School Transport for church-aided (denominational) schools Some pupils get free transport to school because they (or their parent/s) have the same religion as the school that they attend. We want to hear your views about our proposal to stop this funding support. Closes 30 September.

Czone – Walking Buses
A Walking Bus is the name given to a line of children walking to school in pairs, escorted by at least two adults along an approved route. Parents can volunteer to help.
School crossing patrols
Volunteers are always needed. Our Road Safety Team co-ordinates a service which helps children cross the road safely at 80 schools in the county.
Pedestrian training for young children
Footsteps is a pedestrian training scheme for young children which aims to develop their awareness of roads. Children – usually from the reception class and years one and two – are taken outside their school with a trained tutor to observe local traffic and talk about road safety.
Cycling to school – training and awareness
A cycling awareness course gives children the skills they need for riding their bikes on the road. The aim is to encourage children to think independently and make their own informed decisions.
