How to get alerts about school closures
If your school has to close unexpectedly, you will see live details and a link to the schools web page here through our closure alerts page:
Links to that page will automatically appear around the site, including our home page.
Don't forget that you can also listen to local radio stations listed below, and our website can be viewed on Internet-enabled mobile phones.
How to get alerts about future closures
Each school has its own webpage here, which also lists emergency closure notices, with holidays and inset days.
On those pages, you can subscribe to receive automatic emails and RSS news feeds when your school is closed. You can also add planned closures to your Outlook, Google or similar calendars.
The emergency closure list also links through to those pages:
How our school closure alerts work
If a single school has to close unexpectedly, the headteacher writes the details into a system that immediately displays this information here.
If many schools are likely to be affected, for instance during heavy snowfall, our Alerts page will instead display a list of all schools in East Sussex. The list will be divided into three categories – Open, Closed, or ‘Not yet confirmed'. You can monitor this page in real time to check the status of your school.
How school closures are publicised
When headteachers enter information into our automated system, this generates messages which:
- updates this website with details of the closure
- emails the relevant County Council teams
- emails anyone who has subscribed to receive closure emails about your school
- creates an RSS alert to those who've subscribed for that method.
Local radio stations are also informed by email:
