Education websites for parents

To find out more about what is taught in each subject at your child's school, speak to your child's teacher. They will be able to tell you which resources will be most useful to support your child's learning.

On this page we have listed general websites that offer help and advice for parents. Some of these sites are more commonly used by teachers but are another useful resource for parents who want to know more.

Parent Centre
From the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), formerly DfES. The Parent Centre is for all parents and carers who want to help their child or children to learn. Includes a reference guide for parents and carers called the Learning Journey. This website goes into more detail about what your child is expected to know for each Key Stage and subject.
BBC Schools
Explore BBC Schools for learning resources for home and school. The Parents section is packed with articles on everything from making the most of parent evenings to coping with exam stress. Download Together, the BBC Schools magazine for parents.
Parents in Education
Research on the home-school partnership. Includes a useful list of links to related information at the bottom of the webpage.
DCSF (formerly DfES) Parental Involvement
Advice about promoting good relations between home and school, and encouraging parental involvement.
Education Guardian – Schools
News and special reports on current issues in education.
Times Education Supplement
News and special reports about primary, secondary and further education.

An excellent resource for those involved in the education of young children.
Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF), formerly DfES
National education news and resources, with links to information for learners of all ages, education providers and governors, parents and employers.
National Curriculum
Links every National Curriculum programme of study requirement to resources on the Curriculum Online website, with lots of other advice and guidance.
National Curriculum in Action
Uses pupils' work and case study materials to show what the National Curriculum in each subject looks like in practice.
Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA)
The QCA maintains and develops the National Curriculum and associated assessments, tests and examinations.
Office for Standards in Education (Ofsted)
Ofsted carries out regular inspections of all 24,000 schools in England which are wholly or mainly state-funded. It also reviews local education authorities, inspects initial teacher training courses and 16–19 education and training in sixth form and FE colleges, and regulates early years child care and education.
