Rye Community Primary School and Children's Centre
Construction began on a new primary school and Children's Centre in Rye in July 2007. The project had a budget of £6 million and the school opened September 2008.

Where is the new school?
The new school is on a site between Thomas Peacocke Community College and the Love Lane allotments in Rye.
The school replaced Tilling Green Infant School and the Freda Gardham Community School.
How much was being spent?
The budget for building the new school and Children's Centre was £6 million.
When does it open?
Construction work began in July 2007 and the school and Children's Centre opened September 2008.
The design
The new school is a two-storey building and the Children’s Centre is single-storey. The development is built on a raised platform above the highest predicted flood level. Its modern design is built to the latest Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) and county council specifications and features a two-storey corridor to give natural lighting and ventilation throughout.
It also includes several environmentally-friendly green features including a green Sedum roof, high levels of insulation and low energy light fittings.

How many pupils can the new school take?
The new school has 11 classrooms for up to 330 pupils, aged 4–11 years old.
Planning and public consultation
More than two years of planning have gone into the proposals and the local community and existing schools have been consulted at various stages.
The proposals were commissioned by the Children’s Services Department of East Sussex County Council and the design architects were NPS Property Consultants Ltd. Bluestone plc were the contractors.
