School records

Every child has their own set of educational records. This should include exchanges of letters you may have had with the school, information about your child's achievements and information about attendance and behaviour.

East Sussex County Council does not hold school records for individual pupils. Instead, each school holds these records. For contact details, Find schools in East Sussex.

Your rights

As a parent or carer, you have the right to see the educational records of your child. To apply to see these records you will need to make a request in writing to the head teacher, who must respond to your request within 15 school days.

Your child's rights

The right to see school records transfers to your child on their 18th birthday. After this time only they are entitled to see their records. You would have to ask for their permission if you wanted to have access.

Further information

You will find more detailed information about school records on the Home Education website.
