Advice for new students on applying for funding

Latest: The closing date for funding applications was Friday 27 June. We are still providing advice sessions in July and August.

General advice on completing the PN1 form can be obtained from the Student Finance Direct Helpline on 08456 077577.

Help at County Hall

Staff from Student Support will be in reception at County Hall, Lewes, at the times below on the first and third Wednesday of each month from May to August. They will be able to help with any difficulties you have in completing the form and can photocopy your identity or financial documents.

Staff will be available at County Hall at the following times:

  • 1pm – 4pm Wednesday 20 August 2008

We regret that, because of the small number of staff working in the Student Support section, it will not be possible to see callers outside these times.

Identity documents

Applicants must send a passport as evidence of their identity. We return all passports by recorded delivery, so someone will have to sign for the package when it is delivered. If the passport is returned to us because it has not been signed for or collected from the sorting office, we will send it to you again, but this time by first class mail.

If you send your passport in separately from your PN1 form, please make sure that you enclose a covering letter clearly stating the name and address it should be returned to.

If you do not want to post your passport, bring it to County Hall (with a photocopy if you can) at one of the times given above.

Postage

Please make sure that your application form and/or your passport are weighed at a post office so that the correct postage is paid.

We do not accept delivery of items with insufficient postage, so the package will be returned to the sender. If no sender is given on the envelope, the package will be opened at a dead letter office in Belfast to find a return address. This can mean a delay of several weeks.
