Once you turn 16 there are lots of opportunities to continue learning at school, college and later on at university.

If you are of compulsory school age – five to 16 years – you must stay in education until the last Friday of June in the school year in which you turn 16.

Further education

After 16 most young people go on to further education (FE). You could take A levels, GNVQs or City & Guilds professional courses, and study part time if you want.

Courses can be academic or more practical and vocational, aimed at a specific career. Many people study FE courses before they move on to higher education.
