The Hastings federation
Plans to establish a federation of three Hastings secondary schools under a single governing body have been halted.
The proposal to set up a federation of the three schools, Filsham Valley, Hillcrest and The Grove, requires the support in law of each of the school’s governing bodies. Governors of Hillcrest and The Grove schools voted unanimously to support the federation but Filsham Valley governors voted against the proposals.
What happens now?
East Sussex County Council is disappointed by the decision of the Filsham Valley governors not to support the federation. We are considering the options and cannot comment further at this stage.
The three schools will continue to work as they do now under their individual governing bodies. Ninestiles Plus, the school improvement company that has been working in the schools to raise standards, will continue to work closely with the headteachers in the three schools.

The consultation
The governing bodies of the three schools ran a consultation from September to October 2008 on their proposals to federate the three schools.
