Neighbourhood help with consumer issues – your local Consumer Champions
Consumer Champions are local volunteers who help people keep up to date with consumer issues, and advise on any problems.
They help form a link between the area where they live or work, East Sussex Trading Standards, and a network of related organisations and community groups.
There are around 40 Consumer Champions across the county. These include Neighbourhood Watch co-ordinators, Sheltered Housing Scheme Managers and parish clerks. If you'd like to join them, see below.
Their role is to:
- direct people to the correct organisation when they need help
- pass on relevant information or news
- alert Trading Standards to any problems in the area.
How to get in touch with your local Champion
To find out whether your neighbourhood has a local champion, please contact Trading Standards.
Training and support
Our help for Consumer Champions includes things such as:
- a support pack containing a directory of useful contacts; flowcharts to guide you through problems; leaflets and other information
- an allocated Fair Trading Officer who can be contacted directly for help when needed
- meetings twice a year with other Consumer Champions and the Fair Trading Officer
- membership of the Consumer Support Network, with alerts on scams and trading problems.
How to become a Consumer Champion
We are looking for people who are active in their community, and can work with others who are vulnerable or in need of help. If you would like to get involved, please complete our application form, below.
