Reporting under-age sales
There are age limits for the sale of:
- alcohol
- cigarettes
- knives and offensive weapons
- spray paints
- fireworks
- videos, computer games and DVDs
- butane gas and solvents.
A full list of age limits and the maximum penalties for selling age-restricted goods is in the age restricted products leaflet by Trading Standards.
How to report underage sales
If you think that a business has been selling any of these items to someone who is under-age, you can report them to Trading Standards. You will need to give us:
- the name and address of the business you are reporting
- details of when the under-age sale was made, what was bought and how old you think the buyer was.
To report an under-age sale contact Trading Standards.
Help us to enforce the law
To help identify businesses that are illegally selling goods to underage people we need volunteers aged 14 to 16 1/2. If you want to help, apply to be a volunteer purchaser.
