The Registration Service

The Registration Service records details of births, marriages and deaths, and keeps these records for posterity. Such records are a useful resource for anyone researching their family history.

Local authorities work in partnership with the General Register Office (GRO) for England and Wales. They send birth, marriage and death register information to the GRO to make up the national archive.

The four district offices

East Sussex has four registration offices:

  • Eastbourne
  • Hastings
  • Lewes
  • Crowborough.

Offices are normally open from 9 to 4pm on weekdays, and will also open for weddings on Saturday mornings. Find contact details for registration offices.
