Licensing a building for civil marriage and partnership ceremonies

If you manage or own a venue why not apply for a licence to hold marriage and partnership ceremonies? Many couples are looking for a wedding venue with a difference, from historic castles and seaside hotels to country pubs and golf clubs.

Licensing your venue

Civil marriages and partnerships must take place in a permanent structure that is open to the public and non-religious in nature. This includes restaurants, hotels, museums, theatres, stately homes and civic halls. Marriages must take place in a designated ‘ceremony room’.

To register a venue please download our guidance notes and an application form.
