Death certificates for East Sussex – order copies

You can buy copies of death certificates for deaths registered in East Sussex (excluding Brighton & Hove).

You can either order them online or by post.

If you're ordering online

To order a copy of a certificate fill out the online death certificate form (link below), selecting the registration office that the death was registered in.

Payment should be made by credit or debit card and will be collected on our behalf by WorldPay. Once you have submitted your order and we have verified that it is correct, you will automatically link through to the WorldPay website to add your card details. WorldPay is a secure website and is part of the Royal Bank of Scotland.

Once your payment has cleared you will be given an order reference. Please keep a note of this as you will need to quote it if there is a problem with your order. If there is a problem with your order, contact the relevant registration office.

If you're ordering by post

To order a copy of a death certificate, fill out the form below and forward it to the registration office where the death was registered. Payment may be made in one of two ways:

  • by sterling cheque made payable to East Sussex County Council
  • by credit card over the phone. Find contact phone numbers for local registration offices.

Costs

Copies cost £7 each. They are sent by standard post and are usually despatched within four working days of receiving your request. The following additional charges may apply:

  • £3 per order if you pay by credit or debit card
  • £10 per order if you want us to send your certificates as a priority.
