Emergency planning training for staff

Training events are held from time to time to make sure that local authority staff are fully prepared for an emergency. Members of voluntary organisations are also involved in emergency exercises where appropriate.

Inter-agency training

The Council's emergency planning officers help to organise training with other agencies, such as:

  • tactical command modules – these examine different scenarios for local authority and emergency managers operating at a tactical level during a major incident
  • chief officers' exercise – this recreates situations faced by chief officers operating at a strategic command level during a major incident
  • participation in national exercises – for example Watermark, the flooding exercise testing multi-agency response to flooding over a wide area.

Other training also takes place at the Emergency Planning College.

Rest centre training

For staff in emergency rest centres. They focus on caring for people who are:

  • temporarily displaced from their home or place of work following evacuation
  • uninjured survivors following a major incident
  • needing to be rehoused in the short term.

Access to training

Local authority managers and staff who would like to know more about training should contact the Emergency Planning team.
