Our role in an emergency

In the event of a major incident in East Sussex the county, district and borough councils will support the emergency services. Local authority teams are ready to:

  • provide physical and emotional support to local residents
  • support and co-ordinate the voluntary sector response
  • co-ordinate recovery once the initial emergency is over
  • arrange transport, temporary accommodation and food in the event of evacuation
  • keep council services running as normally as possible.

We are part of the Sussex wide inter-agency forum that plans for major incidents:

With formal protocols established in the Sussex Major Incident Linking Document, we play an active role at local level and countywide in responding to an emergency and helping communities return to normal following any major incident.
