Bluetongue

For the latest on the Bluetongue situation,

The whole of East Sussex is included in the Protection Zone, which covers much of South-East England.

Both the Restricted and Protection Zones are shown on the Defra website. For a large scale map, download the latest Declaration in pdf format, where you can zoom in on the map using your Acrobat controls.

To find out if a property lies within the zone use the Defra Interactive Map.

Bluetongue is spread through the Culicoides midge. Defra has detailed advice for farmers on possible mitigation measures, and clinical signs, on their website. Livestock owners should examine their livestock regularly, remain vigilant for disease and report any suspicions immediately.

For more about this disease and the types of animals affected, see the Defra website – Bluetongue.

For more advice you can also contact our Animal Health team.
