Hate crime

Hate crime comes in many forms. It is any crime committed against a person or property that is perceived, by the victim or any other person, as being motivated by prejudice or hate.

Racist and homophobic crime, and domestic abuse are all forms of hate crime.

Why it's important to report hate incidents and crimes

The police and local authorities need to know the number, type and range of hate crimes that take place in East Sussex. Reporting these crimes will help us to identify where the problem areas are, and how to improve services to deal with crime.

Examples of hate incidents include verbal or written abuse, harassment or intimidation, damage to property or physical assault. It can also include texts and emails.
