Free fire safety checks
Do you know an elderly or vulnerable person who you feel might be at risk of fire in their home? Then please help them to contact the East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service to arrange for a free home safety visit.
Prevention is the main aim of the fire service, so crews are visiting homes to offer safety advice and fit free smoke alarms.
East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service have reduced home fires by 29% since 2000. We now need to target people, such as the elderly and single-parent families, who are most at risk from fire. Unfortunately they are also more reluctant to ask for a home safety visit, so we are asking families and friends of elderly and vulnerable people to help us to help them.
Arrange a visit
The Home Safety Visit scheme is totally free. The local fire crew will phone first to arrange a convenient time – either weekday, evening or weekend.
They will then call round, check for any potential fire hazards, offer clear and straightforward fire safety advice, and fit smoke alarms. The visit should only take about 30 minutes.
To arrange a visit for yourself or on behalf of a friend or relative either call free on 0800 177 7069 or visit the East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service website and follow the Home Safety Visits link to book online.
