Crime in your area
Crime statistics
East Sussex has relatively low levels of crime compared with many other areas of the country. Figures show that the chance of becoming the victim of a crime is lower than many of us think.
East Sussex Safer Communities Partnership
The County Council works as part of the East Sussex Safer Communities Partnership to reduce crime, drug and alcohol misuse and anti-social behaviour around the county. The partnership brings together representatives from:
- local councils
- health and care services, including primary care trusts
- fire service
- police
- probation service
- prosecution and courts services
- local crime and disorder reduction partnerships (CDRPs).
Find out more about the work of the partnership by reading the Safer Communities Newsletter.
Safer Communities Plan
After looking at crime and disorder issues around East Sussex, we've developed a plan which describes how we will all work together to tackle crime and the fear of crime. Our priorities are:
- reducing priority crimes (known as British Crime Survey Comparator Crimes)
- preventing and reducing violent crime in public places
- preventing criminals committing another crime (re-offending)
- supporting victims of domestic violence
- supporting victims of hate crime, such as racism
- reducing the harm caused by drugs
- reducing the harm caused by alcohol misuse
- building respect in communities and reducing anti-social behaviour.
You can download the Safer Communities Plan from the East Sussex Safer Communities Partnership website.
Crime and disorder reduction partnerships
To reduce crime and the fear of crime in East Sussex, five crime and disorder reduction partnerships (CDRPs) have been established. These involve the County Council, police, district and borough councils, primary care trusts and the fire and rescue service.
The strategies for tackling crime in each area are available on the district and borough websites:
