Apply to become a registered chaperone

If you want to become a Chaperone you must attend one of our training courses, even if you've previously had a chaperoning licence. This makes sure that everyone is up to date with the current child entertainment legislation and safeguarding issues.

The process takes around eight weeks, from starting training to when we receive your clearance documents and references. It can take longer at busy times such as Christmas.

You will need to reapply for your licence every three years.

How does the application process work?

If you live in East Sussex you will need to contact us to become a licenced chaperone. Contact details for the Child Employment and Entertainment Team are at the bottom of this page.

Once you have requested an application form and booked yourself onto a training course you will be sent an invoice which will need to be paid before you attend the training.

To become a licenced chaperone you will need to:

  • complete a chaperone application form
  • attend a mandatory training session
  • provide two personal references
  • have passed the CRB check
  • provide two passport sized photographs
  • have paid the relevant fee.

Please note, we can refuse a chaperone licence if we are not satisfied that the applicant is suitable to look after children whilst performing.

We charge a fee for the processing and administration of chaperone licences.

Individual fees

  • Volunteer chaperones - £30
  • Professional chaperones - £50
  • Re-issuing lost licences - £10.
