Help for parents and carers from the Family Support Team

If you are a parent or carer and are having problems looking after your children, the Family Support Team can help. The sooner you are able to get in touch, the more likely it is that we can help to prevent difficulties becoming really serious.

We can help you with a whole range of problems. These might be about daily household budgeting, finding support at parenting groups, needing practical help in the home or arranging counselling for the parents, the children, or the family as a whole.

Family assessment

When you ask for help we will make an assessment of your needs. To do this, and if you agree, we will talk to the other professionals who are in contact with you and your children so that together we can put together a good picture of your needs and see what help would be most useful. Find out more about what is involved a family assessment.

Family group conferences

We recognise that some parents will feel they have reached the end of their tether and don’t know what to do for the best. Family group conferences can help by bringing together the wider family, including godparents, close friends or other people who are important to your family.

Between us we will try to find practical solutions that will help your family stay together and keep the children safe and well. Find out more about family group conferences.
