Lansdowne secure children's home benefits from its small size and a high ratio of staff to children.
We believe we provide an environment in which children can thrive in a safe, secure but homely environment. A strong emphasis on recognition and reward for achievement encourages self esteem and confidence to enjoy the benefits of group living.
How we work
Our well trained and experienced staff use a variety of therapeutic approaches. Life at Lansdowne revolves around a system of behaviour modification which rewards good behaviour.
Cognitive behaviour therapy is widely used which allows a child to look seriously at past experiences. It is important for children to work hard at the issues set out in their care plans and to take every opportunity to improve their education, but alongside this we want our children to enjoy their leisure time and have fun.
Making a referral – step by step guide
For social workers who want to place a child or young person in secure accommodation:
Ofsted reports and inspections
Ofsted inspects all children's homes every year – as a minimum this means one full inspection plus one interim inspection.
Independent Review (IR) meetings
These meetings review whether or not the conditions for retaining the child in secure accommodation still apply.
An IR meeting should be held within one month of a young person being admitted to a Secure Unit. Further reviews must be held at intervals of no more than three months:
