What we offer at Lansdowne secure children's home

Thank you for looking after me. I think this is the best unit in the world.

A young person from Lansdowne.

While maintaining high levels of safety and security, Lansdowne is primarily a children’s home and so aims to provide as normal living surroundings as possible. Furniture, soft furnishings, equipment and fittings create a warm and relaxed atmosphere.

The accommodation is well maintained, which promotes a sense of responsibility from both staff and young people. Any repairs or maintenance are carried out promptly to required safety and security standards.

The facilities

The main living area offers a range of facilities to promote relaxation, such as reading, music, television and indoor games including snooker and table tennis.

Each young person has a separate bedroom, which they can make their own with posters and other belongings. Money and valuables are kept safe for them.

Individual care plans

On arrival the needs of each young person are assessed and an individual care plan drawn up for them. This package may include extra provision for special educational needs, support from a psychiatrist or psychologist, or meetings with the teenage pregnancy unit or youth offending team. Their individual care plan will be reflected in their daily routine and the services that they receive.

Religion

We take care to understand and discuss a young person’s religious and cultural needs. We can arrange for a minister of their own religion to come and visit them.
