Licence for non-medical poisons

People wishing to sell non-medical poisons in East Sussex must apply for a licence from Trading Standards, under the Poisons Act 1972. You can apply online using the form below.

Non-medical poisons include:

  • caustic soda
  • some chemical toilet fluids
  • some drain cleaners
  • some weed killers.

A full list of non-medical poisons is detailed in our Poisons licence information, but some common products that contain poisons include:

  • Ataka kettle descaler
  • Mr Muscle drain opener
  • Elsan Blue chemical toilet fluid
  • Kil-Block drain cleaner.

All licences must be renewed every year by 30 April.

Fees and application form

The following fees apply:

  • initial application for a licence, for each set of premises £32.67
  • renewal of poisons licence £17.22
  • any alterations to details on your licence after it has been issued £8.80.
